Holiday Travel Safety: KURA Warns Motorists and Contractors Against Violations | BossNana International Radio

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has called on motorists to strictly adhere to road signs as the country heads into the festive season, particularly on roads undergoing construction.

On Sunday, November 9, 2025, KURA Director General Silas Kinoti said security officers would arrest motorists who fail to obey traffic signs, adding that they will face the law. He also declared a crackdown on contractors who fail to install appropriate road signage at construction sites.

“Drivers observe all road signs as we head into the festive season. As the authority building these roads, I expect full discipline on site. Contractors must install all required signage. No excuses. Our Engineers will enforce compliance,” Kinoti said.

He further reiterated that disregard for road signs is illegal and hazardous to life.

“Failure to follow road signs is a violation of the law and may lead to apprehension by traffic officers. Safety is our shared responsibility. We are delivering the roads Kenya deserves,” he added.

The festive season typically brings increased travel, social gatherings, and a rise in traffic incidents, making road safety a top priority.

In related remarks, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja assured the public on Friday, November 8 that security agencies are already preparing strategies to ensure safety during the December holidays. Kanja said he will consult regularly with regional commanders and intelligence units to stay ahead of emerging threats.

“We must, from time to time, come together to discuss and strategize because we must at all times remain a step ahead of offenders,” he said.

Kanja urged the officers on duty during the festive season to exercise professionalism and show respect for citizens’ rights.

“When we all work together, we have intelligence-led operations, meaning everyone is contributing. We bring together all officers and agencies to ensure unity of purpose, and when we do that, we all succeed,” he added.

Both KURA and the police emphasized that road safety and security are collective responsibilities, urging Kenyans to stay vigilant and disciplined during the holidays.
