A Nairobi court has ordered that Kimunye Musyimi, the man accused of killing General Service Unit (GSU) officer Ramadhan Mattanka outside State House, be detained for 14 days to allow police to complete their investigations.
Musyimi, 56, from Makueni County, appeared at the Kibera Law Courts yesterday, where detectives sought additional time to finalize the probe into Monday morning’s fatal attack. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly traveled from Makueni to Nairobi on Sunday night before carrying out the assault.
In court, Musyimi appeared frail, limping, and in visible pain, requiring police assistance as he entered. He leaned heavily on one leg, while the other was bare, missing both a shoe and a sock. The court directed that he be taken to Mbagathi Hospital for immediate medical attention.
Police say the attack occurred at around 8:10 a.m. near State House Gate D along Dennis Pritt Road, a public checkpoint. Musyimi, armed with a bow and arrows, confronted officers on duty and ignored repeated commands to surrender. He fired an arrow that struck Constable Mattanka in the ribs. The officer, attached to GSU’s G Company, was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) but tragically succumbed to his injuries.

An autopsy conducted on Tuesday revealed that Mattanka died from severe bleeding after an arrow pierced his seventh and eighth ribs, punctured his left lung, and penetrated his heart. Mattanka, a Muslim, was scheduled to be buried in Kajiado County following a short delay requested by investigators to complete forensic procedures.
Police confirmed that Musyimi was arrested immediately after the attack. During interrogation, he reportedly claimed that “Satan had sent him” to harm the officer.
Investigators are also probing whether the suspect and the slain officer knew each other. CCTV footage shows a 17-minute exchange between them before the attack, suggesting the assault may have stemmed from a personal dispute. Musyimi reportedly carried a large sack concealing the bow and arrows and initially approached the gate posing as a street family member before launching the attack when officers were momentarily distracted.
