Kenya National Examinations Council detectives have arrested a university student believed to have been running a sophisticated internet scam selling fake examination papers.
The suspect, Chrispinus Nandafu Naisuma, a fourth-year student at Meru University of Science and Technology, was flushed out of his hideout in Kianjai, Tigania West Subcounty, after a coordinated operation by the detectives.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed that the investigations showed the student was the mastermind behind a syndicate online that traded under the name “The Teacher’s KNEC Exam 2025.”
He allegedly had multiple fictitious online profiles on the platform to dupe unsuspecting Kenyans into purchasing fake exam papers.
“When detectives finally closed in, they recovered several SIM cards, six mobile phones and two laptops among other incriminating items believed to have been used in the scam,” DCI said in a statement.
The suspect remains in police custody as detectives process him in preparation for his appearance in court.
Concurrently, the KNEC and DCI have ramped up a coordinated campaign against individuals and groups who sell fake examination material countrywide.
The government has cautioned Kenyans against dealing with conmen who claim to offer original exam papers, noting that all legitimate examinations are closely monitored and guarded by strict integrity checks.
