“They Thought I Was Dead”: Ex-County Health Officer Recounts Abduction, Blames Isiolo Governor | BossNana International Radio

Former Isiolo County Chief Officer of Health, Mohamed Abdirahman, has accused Isiolo Governor Ibrahim Abdi Guyo of orchestrating a harrowing ordeal in which he was allegedly abducted, assaulted, and left for dead.

Abdirahman told journalists that tensions began after he declined to renew his contract as Chief Officer for Health, citing a toxic work environment and what he described as sabotage by the governor.

“As a mother dies in labour because of lack of nearby health facilities and no ambulance, I am the one receiving all that information. It was emotionally draining. I could not continue working under such circumstances,” he said as quoted by Nation.

Abdirahman recounted that on June 13 in the Maanzoni area of Machakos County, assailants allegedly hired by Governor Guyo forcibly disarmed him, bundled him into a vehicle, and abducted him.

He said the kidnappers drove him to Ruaka, where they blindfolded, beat, and interrogated him about his involvement in supporting the governor’s impeachment.

“They thought I was dead. The governor asked why I wanted to impeach him. The people in the vehicle questioned me about who was financing the impeachment and warned me it would not succeed because they intended to kill me,” Abdirahman recounted.

Governor Guyo Denies Orchestrating Abduction

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) probed the incident, and last Friday the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) ordered the arrest of Governor Guyo and seven others for alleged involvement in robbery with violence connected to the attack.

Governor Guyo dismissed the allegations as politically motivated.

While addressing a fundraising event at P.C.E.A Shalom Church in Nairobi on Sunday, the governor denied ordering the abduction and maintained that efforts to remove him from office must follow democratic channels.

“Whatever is happening does not give me sleepless nights. Those politicians behind this should go to the people of Isiolo and seek office legitimately. There is no shortcut,” he said.

Governor Guyo said he is ready to cooperate with investigative authorities but noted that until the case is concluded, he still enjoys protection from his security detail.

He previously survived an impeachment motion after the Senate dismissed the case, citing procedural errors by Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

The governor has insisted that the abduction claims are false and vowed to pursue the case to court. He is due for his next court hearing on September 23, 2025.

Abdirahman, on the other hand, said that he remains resolute in assisting investigators so that justice prevails.

“As a victim of crime, what matters is where I am today. The past is just a story. We have given the police all the materials needed. The DCI did a good job, which informed the DPP’s decision to charge those responsible. I expect nothing less,” he said.
