A quiet Monday in Juja turned tragic when a Super Metro Limited matatu collided with a motorbike along the busy Thika Superhighway, killing the biker.
The organization avers that the matatu was driving downhill when a tuk-tuk ahead attempted to change lanes. A biker who was riding at high speed in an attempt to overtake attempted to maneuver in an attempt to dodge the collision but lost control and collided with a pavement before skidding into the path of the matatu.
“A speeding motorbike rider, overtaking nearby, swerved to avoid a potential collision but lost control and was struck by the matatu. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene,” the company said.
“A tuk-tuk ahead of the bus attempted to change lanes, prompting a motorbike rider, who was overtaking at high speed, to swerve in an effort to avoid a collision. Unfortunately, the rider struck the pavement, fell, and was fatally injured by the bus.”
Authorities Launch Investigation
Super Metro Limited said Juja Police Station is leading the investigation into the fatal crash. The company promised utmost cooperation to ensure a fair and transparent investigation.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time,” the statement read.
The company also reaffirmed its commitment to road safety and law enforcement, inviting anyone interested in seeking more information to contact the police.
Chaos on the Highway
Tensions flared after the accident when Boda-boda riders burnt the matatu, triggering a standoff and causing traffic disruptions along the highway. Police arrived within minutes to find the bus completely burnt.
Authorities confirmed they are investigating the incident and promised to take appropriate action. Meanwhile, the motorcyclist’s body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy, and the burnt wreckage was moved to the local police station.
