Senator Ojienda: Raila Will Eventually Back Ruto’s Second Term Bid | BossNana International Radio

Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda has declared that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will back President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, even as the party insists it has not officially made a decision.

“In 2027, ODM will support William Ruto for the presidency. That you can take to the bank,” Ojienda said on Thursday during an interview on Citizen TV’s Daybreak program.

The senator pointed to the ten-point agenda anchoring the March 2025 political pact between ODM and Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), as well as the senior government positions now held by Raila Odinga’s allies since the two parties joined forces last year.

“ODM and UDA are converging; otherwise, there would be no need for committees that we have seen, a 10-point agenda, entrenching ODM and its cabinet secretaries in government to work closely with President Ruto if the intention is to ship out,” he said.

“The intention is to go in and remain in government. ODM will remain in government for a long, long time.”

Odinga Cautions Party Members

On Monday, Raila Odinga hinted at the possibility of fielding a candidate in the 2027 presidential race but urged ODM members to remain silent until the party makes an official decision.

“Don’t commit the party to some things that have not been discussed. Who told you ODM does not have a candidate in 2027?” Odinga said during ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations.

“We have a clear plan that we have agreed on, and let us implement it. Other decisions will be made when the time comes.”

Ojienda Confident Odinga Will Back Ruto

Despite Odinga’s caution, Ojienda expressed confidence that the ODM leader will ultimately support Ruto’s re-election bid. He described Odinga as “a political figure who transforms, unites, and sees far.”

“In the end, I am sure Raila Odinga… will want the best for William Ruto and this government,” Ojienda said.

Ojienda explained that talks on the coalition’s 2027 election strategy are underway and could include negotiations for powerful positions such as the Speaker of the National Assembly. He explained that the ultimate aim is to secure President Ruto a second term.

“The discussions are going on… There isn’t yet a firm position on the formula. That formula will include a clear agenda on how ODM will approach the election,” he said.
