President Ruto Courts Hollywood Filmmakers, Demands Fair Finance for Africa at UNGA | BossNana International Radio

President William Ruto is in the United States of America for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) 80th session in New York, where he has a series of high-level side events and meetings besides the core summit. He is visiting with the objective of not only advancing Kenya’s diplomatic agenda abroad but also opening new job, investment, and economic growth opportunities back home.

Talks With Hollywood and Creative Industry Leaders

On September 25, President Ruto will attend a roundtable meeting hosted by the U.S. Chamber’s U.S.-Africa Business Center and AmCham Kenya. The session will bring together Hollywood filmmakers, television producers, studio and streaming executives, senior music industry leaders, and sports industry representatives.

Ruto will make the proposal of establishing a production pipeline between Hollywood and Kenya during the roundtable. The action is meant to tap into the creative potential of Kenya and position the country as a hub in global film and entertainment productions.

His team includes Indigo Reign Films executives based in Los Angeles who are part of his delegation. At the meeting, filmmaker Evette Vargas will present The Mara as a case study to demonstrate how global cooperation in the creative economy can drive shared success.

Kenya’s expectations from these talks are the creation of employment, new small business opportunities, and a boost in the tourism sector that has a propensity to benefit from foreign film productions.

Advocating Global Finance Reforms

Away from the creative sector, Ruto is using the UNGA platform to push for reform in the international financial system. He will push for greater access to development finance on more equal terms, especially for developing nations that cannot compete under current arrangements.

Ruto’s agenda also includes rallying support for reforms at the United Nations. According to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, “He will also push for reforms of the United Nations to make it more inclusive and to address global peace and security challenges, including enhancing peace efforts in Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, and Haiti.”

Kenya’s Global Voice Grows Stronger

Through these engagements, President Ruto seeks to position Kenya as a leading voice on issues affecting developing countries – from unlocking economic opportunities through the creative economy to championing global financial fairness and advocating for peace in conflict zones.
