Olunga Equals Oliech, Now Chasing William Ouma’s Historic Goal Record | BossNana International Radio

Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga moved closer to becoming Kenya’s highest-scoring player in history after netting a double in the national team’s World Cup qualifier victory over Seychelles on Tuesday, September 9, 2026.

The Al Arabi forward’s two goals moved him to 34, level with Dennis Oliech’s record and one goal shy of record holder William ‘Chege’ Ouma.

Ouma, a legendary striker from the 1970s, set the all-time record with 35 goals. The former Gor Mahia and Luo Union star hit the milestone in 66 appearances over a 15-year international career. His last goal for the Harambee Stars came in 1977, during his final outings under coach Ray Wood.

Meanwhile, Oliech’s record of 34 goals had stood untouched since 2015, when he retired from international football – until Olunga matched it a decade later.

Olunga now has his sights firmly set on breaking the long-standing record as he chases the title of Kenya’s most iconic goalscorer in international football.

Club level has already witnessed the lethal forward leave his mark on history books. He left Qatari giants Al Duhail in late May 2025 as their highest-scoring player ever after netting a record 130 goals.
