Mandera Chiefs to Carry Guns in Fresh Push Against Border Insecurity | BossNana International Radio

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday announced fresh measures to bolster security at the Kenya–Somalia Border One Crossing after concerns earlier this month about Jubaland forces infiltrating Kenyan territory.

Speaking in Mandera, Murkomen said security agencies had fully restored order at the crossing and reassured residents that Kenya would not allow external conflicts to spill into its borders.

“I want to ensure learners, teachers, and residents that their security is guaranteed and we won’t allow external conflict to infiltrate their homes, schools, and farms,” he said. “It is our duty to defend and protect our citizens and borders even when they have their own fighting.”

The CS further disclosed that all chiefs in Mandera County will be armed and trained to enhance grassroots security and help authorities respond more effectively to threats.

Murkomen urged locals to join hands with security agencies to combat al-Shabaab attacks, noting that the government is committed to safeguarding schools, homes, and communities.

“We want to ensure all learners, teachers, and residents that their security is guaranteed, and we won’t allow external conflict to infiltrate their homes, schools, and farms,” he reiterated.

CS Murkomen at the same time announced that the State would confer the Head of State Commendation on the five chiefs who were abducted in Mandera in the line of duty.

“This recognition is a testament to their courage, resilience, and unwavering dedication to national service. The Government stands firmly with all our officers and remains committed to ensuring their safety as they continue serving the people of Kenya with honour,” he said.
