Govt to Train Civil Servants on AI, Harmonize Salaries for Fairness | BossNana International Radio

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has announced that the government is rolling out reforms to harmonize civil servants’ salaries and integrate digital transformation tools, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to boost efficiency and fairness in service delivery.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the 44th edition of the Kenya Civil Service Sports Organization (KECOSO) Games at Moi Stadium in Embu, Ruku acknowledged the imbalances in public sector salaries and confirmed that action is already being taken.

“The government is focused on harmonising salaries and other earnings across the public service as part of a broader effort to motivate civil servants and improve service delivery,” Ruku said. “We recognise the concerns around pay disparities, and we are committed to ensuring equity and fairness in remuneration.”

The CS praised civil servants for their diligence, describing Kenya’s public service as among the best on the African continent.

“I want to commend our civil servants. You are doing a commendable job, and I can confidently say that Kenya has the best public service in Africa,” he said.

Digital-First Strategy and AI Integration

Ruku also pointed out the government’s digital-first strategy spearheaded by the Ministry of ICT, reiterating that Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies will be the drivers of digitizing government operations.

“As the world moves rapidly into the AI era, Kenya cannot afford to lag behind. We are encouraging all public servants to embrace AI tools in their daily work to remain competitive and effective,” he noted.

He called on ministries, departments, and agencies to leverage the opportunities for learning at the Kenya School of Government (KSG), including learning about AI and digital skills. Ruku reiterated that lifelong learning would be essential for career progression as well as future promotions.

Integrity and Sports Development

The CS at the same time cautioned public servants against corruption and advised them to serve Kenyans with diligence and integrity.

He further highlighted the role of sports and talent development in fostering unity and cohesion within the public service. Ruku, referencing the government’s support of Harambee Stars during recent CHAN matches, reiterated that sports remained a crucial pillar in enhancing teamwork and talent development in the civil service.
