Uber Boda Rolls Out New Safety Features to Protect Riders and Passengers | BossNana International Radio

Uber has rolled out a set of new safety features for its Uber Boda service, aiming to better protect both riders and passengers.

The global ride-hailing company says the upgrades include real-time GPS tracking, emergency assistance, driver identity verification, and professional training programs designed specifically for boda boda operators. These additions mark a significant step toward raising safety standards in Kenya’s motorcycle taxi industry.

“Safety has always been at the core of everything we do at Uber, regardless of whether someone is riding in a car or on a motorcycle. We have introduced technology and training standards that set a new benchmark for motorcycle taxi safety in Kenya, ensuring both our drivers and riders can travel with confidence,” said Cassie Jaganyi, Head of Communications for Uber, Sub-Saharan Africa.

Uber has partnered with electric mobility provider Greenwheels Africa to boost safety and sustainability in Kenya’s fast-growing motorcycle taxi industry.

Through the collaboration, Uber aims to raise industry standards by showcasing the impact of proper rider training and thorough verification processes. The initiative is part of the company’s broader effort to ensure that boda boda operators deliver safer, more reliable services to customers across the country.

“Our partnership with Uber allows us to combine our expertise in electric mobility with their technology and safety standards to offer an experience that is not only safer, but also more sustainable. We ensure that every rider receives hands-on training, regular safety inspections, and support so that they can operate confidently and responsibly on the roads,” said Nabil Anjarwalla, CEO of Greenwheels Africa.

Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) shows Kenya has more than 2.5 million registered motorcycles, with about 1.8 million actively in use. The industry generates an estimated Ksh 660 billion annually -contributing 4.4% to Kenya’s GDP.
