Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba issued a three-day ultimatum demanding the arrest of Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and nominated MP Joseph Wainaina over alleged hate speech utterances.
Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, August 31, Wamuchomba warned that a section of Mt Kenya leaders will withdraw their political backing for President William Ruto if law enforcement agencies fail to act.
Wamuchomba expressed concern over what she termed selective application of the law, accusing the administration of shielding its allies from prosecution while ignoring inflammatory remarks capable of triggering ethnic tensions.
“The bubble is growing bigger every day. The time for Kenya to rapture is coming if nothing is done,” Wamuchomba warned. “We are going to speak, and we are going to demand the arrest of the culprits. If the arrest of Joseph Wainaina and CS Duale is not going to happen in the next three days, some of us who have been supporting William Ruto will walk away when he really needs us.”
The Githunguri lawmaker defended her previous decision to align with President Ruto, noting that her initial motivation was grounded in a desire to offer guidance and counsel.
“I have been supporting him, believing that he can improve. I felt I had the responsibility to support him, pray for him, and advise him,” she added. “But the more we support him, the more he is messing, the more his people are messing up.”
Controversies Surrounding Wainaina and Duale
The demands follow widespread public outrage triggered by recent comments attributed to both leaders.
A viral video generated criticism after Nominated MP Joseph Wainaina allegedly suggested that members of the Kikuyu community living in Uasin Gishu County who do not support President Ruto’s re-election should vacate the region.
Wainaina has since refuted the claims, maintaining that his statements were taken out of context.
“I live here (Uasin Gishu), my family lives here and my children live here. If I am to say that the Kikuyu should leave, shouldn’t I be the first to leave? How can I say that they be haunted?” Wainaina stated in a video response. “It is your right to vote for who you’d want to vote for.”
Meanwhile, Health CS Aden Duale faced backlash over remarks comparing the Somali and Kikuyu communities, where he recounted historical marginalization of Somalis under previous administrations while praising President Ruto for reversing the trend.
