An emotional Raphael Tuju broke his silence during a Sunday Service at St. Michael and All Angels ACK Cathedral in Bondo Town, Siaya County, revealing the heavy toll a Sh2.2 billion legal battle has taken on his family.
Addressing the congregation, the former Cabinet Secretary appealed to fellow Christians for prayers, sharing that his children now face intense harassment and humiliation as a result of his ongoing debt dispute.
While Tuju noted that his faith helps him cope with personal hardship, he voiced deep concern over how the bitter conflict has spilled over to his children.
“My own children right now are going through a lot of tribulations. I have gone through tribulations, but I can manage it. I’m strong enough to manage it through my faith, but my children need prayers,” he said.
He expressed frustration that his ongoing legal struggles have impacted his family despite his efforts to protect them.
“Whatever I’m going through should not be visited on them, but unfortunately it has been visited on them,” Tuju said.
Although he refrained from naming specific individuals or detailing the exact nature of the harassment, Tuju noted that his address at the church marked the first time he has chosen to speak publicly on the matter.
“I’ve not gone public with this. This is the first time I’m talking about it in public, but my children have been harassed and humiliated in so many ways,” he said.
Despite the pressure, Tuju assured the church that his family remains united.
“But we stay strong as a family because of the grace of God,” he said.
Inside the Sh2.2 Billion Dari Limited Debt Dispute
The public plea stems from a multi-billion shilling financing agreement involving Dari Limited, a company owned by Tuju. The dispute traces back to a loan facility intended for a luxury real estate development project in Karen, Nairobi, featuring high-end residential units and hospitality amenities.
Tuju contends that the lender failed to honor the original terms, asserting that the bank withheld a crucial Sh294 million disbursement meant to complete the development.
