The Ministry of Education has dismissed a viral online notice claiming that schools will reopen later than scheduled, terming the report completely fake.
On Wednesday, August 19, the State Department for Basic Education issued an urgent warning to parents, guardians, learners, teachers, and the general public against relying on the misleading information. Official statements confirm that the circulating post did not originate from the ministry and that Term Three calendar dates remain unchanged. Learners must report to school on August 24, as originally planned.
“FAKE NEWS ALERT: The post circulating on social media claiming that school opening has been postponed is FAKE,” the State Department declared.
“Parents, guardians, learners, teachers, and the public are urged to ignore it. Term 3 begins on August 24, 2026, as earlier communicated,” the department added.
The clarification arrives less than a week before the official start of Term Three, successfully diffusing widespread confusion among families preparing for the return to school. The fraudulent notice had falsely alleged that Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba ordered a postponement of reopening until September 15 for senior schools and all secondary institutions.
Education authorities urge everyone to disregard those claims and trust only verified updates from official Ministry of Education channels.
