Linda Mwananchi Claims Ruto Blocked Bid to Register New Political Party | BossNana International Radio

The Linda Mwananchi group has said it has worked to register the movement as a political party, but its efforts have failed.

On Saturday, July 18, the group’s spokesperson and Suba South MP Caroli Omondi told a rally in Taita Taveta that the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has blocked the process.

Omondi alleged that President William Ruto instructed the ORPP to deliberately stop the group from gaining official recognition ahead of the 2027 general election. He said the party they planned to register would be called the Linda Mwananchi Party.

“I want to tell President William Ruto to stop directing the registrar of political parties not to approve the registration of Linda Mwananchi Party. I want to tell the registrar that you have no right under Section 8 of the Political Parties Act to deny us the right to use the name Linda Mwananchi,” he said.

Omondi issued a stern warning to the registrar’s office, saying the group would protect Linda Mwananchi’s identity at all costs.

He said he drew inspiration from Raila Odinga’s defiance of oppression and argued that intimidation would not stop them, pointing to how Raila resisted Daniel Moi’s authoritarian rule. Omondi added that the group would march to the registrar’s office to demand approval of the name Linda Mwananchi as a political party.

“We are coming to your office this week, and if you do not approve that name, Raila Odinga taught us what to do, and we will do it. We will guard our name, and you will not intimidate us. The late Daniel Moi tried, but he did not succeed; we will not be beaten, we will not be cowed, and we will not be threatened,” he said.
