Good News for Hospitals as SHA Releases Sh4 Billion to Settle NHIF Claims | BossNana International Radio

The government has reportedly released Sh4 billion to start paying verified hospital claims owed to healthcare facilities under the former National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). The payments target claims of Sh10 million and below.

In a statement, SHA CEO Mercy Mwangangi said eligible facilities will only receive money after they complete a mandatory sign-off process. This process confirms that their verified NHIF claims have been fully settled.

Mwangangi also said healthcare facilities must attend the exercise in their respective regions and submit the required documentation before the authority releases funds.

She added that facilities must sign agreements confirming that they have already cleared their verified “defunct NIF” claims.

To support the rollout, SHA has deployed officers to county offices to help health providers complete the sign-off process. The authority said that once this step finishes, it will release payments to all eligible facilities.

SHA stated that the list of 3,527 eligible healthcare facilities is available on the SHA website and at all SHA county offices.

The exercise will run through regional schedules across the country.

In the Western region, which covers Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya, Busia, Vihiga, Kakamega, and Bungoma, SHA will hold the sign-off at the SHA Office in Kisumu from July 6 to 7, 2026.

In the North Rift region, which includes Trans Nzoia, Turkana, West Pokot, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, and Baringo, SHA will hold the exercise at the SHA Office in Eldoret from July 8 to 9, 2026.

In the South Rift region, covering Nakuru, Kericho, Bomet, and Narok, SHA will conduct the exercise at the SHA Office in Nakuru on July 10, 2026.

In the Central region, which covers Nyandarua, Laikipia, Samburu, Isiolo, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, and Marsabit, SHA will hold the sign-off at the SHA Office in Nyeri from July 13 to 14, 2026.

In the Eastern region, covering Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Kitui, SHA will hold the exercise at the SHA Office in Embu on July 15, 2026.

In the Nairobi region, which covers Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Makueni, and Kiambu, SHA will conduct the process at the 3rd Floor Training Room, SHA Headquarters, from July 16 to 17, 2026.

In the Coast region, covering Taita Taveta, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, and Lamu, SHA will hold the sign-off at the SHA Office in Mombasa from July 20 to 21, 2026.

In the North Eastern region, covering Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir, SHA will conduct the exercise at the SHA Office in Garissa from July 23 to 24, 2026.

For the 2026/2027 financial year, SHA asked the National Treasury for budgetary support to clear the larger verified arrears it inherited from the former National Hospital Insurance Fund.

SHA noted that the second phase will cover 451 healthcare facilities whose claims have already received verification. SHA will keep updating stakeholders as the payment process continues.

Healthcare providers who need clarification should contact SHA through the toll-free number 147 or email info@sha.go.ke.
