President William Ruto slammed the United Opposition, dismissing his political rivals as weak and unprepared while vowing to secure an early win in the 2027 General Election.
The Head of State spoke during a coffee revival launch event in Kianyaga, Kirinyaga County, on Monday, June 22, 2026. He directly challenged opposition leaders and questioned their ability to mount a credible campaign against his administration.
“Wale majamaa wengine wanajaribu kunifanyia maneno, mniachie, nitawanyorosha asubuhi na mapema,” Ruto said, drawing cheers from sections of the crowd. He further dismissed the opposition’s capacity to govern, arguing that they lacked clear policy direction and substantive development agendas beyond chanting “wantam” and “Ruto must go.”
The president singled out opposition slogans and political rhetoric, accusing his rivals of reducing serious national discourse to basic insults rather than meaningful policy debates.
“Sasa niwaulize nyinyi watu wa Kirinyaga, mkipima hao watu, kuna mtu size yangu kwa hao watu? Mtu ambaye hana maono, hana sera, hana mpango, hana agenda, ati ile kazi kubwa akili yake inafika ni kuniita Kasongo, kusema wantam na kusema must go. Sasa huyo ni mtu atashindana na mimi kweli?” Ruto posed.
He mocked their reliance on political chants, arguing that their messaging lacked depth or substance on key sectors of the economy.
“Ukimuuliza mambo ya kahawa hajui, mambo ya kilimo hajui, mambo ya barabara hajui, mambo ya affordable housing hajui, mambo ya matibabu hajui,” he said.
Ruto insisted that his administration remains tightly focused on implementing tangible development programmes. He urged residents to ignore what he termed as “politics of distraction” and instead back his ongoing economic reforms.
The president also blasted opposition lawmakers over their performance during the recent Finance Bill debate in Parliament, claiming they folded under pressure when challenged to defend their arguments on the floor of the House. He argued that opposition MPs completely failed to justify their positions when asked to cite specific provisions in the Bill.
“Juzi wameenda hapo bunge, wamepeleka propaganda na uongo, wakaibishwa huko bunge wakati waliulizwa hiyo unayosema ni kipengele nambari ngapi. Wakakosa kujibu kwasababu ni watu bure sana. Watu wako chini,” Ruto said.
He reiterated that the opposition lacks any real policy grounding, rendering them unable to engage meaningfully during serious legislative deliberations.
