Murkomen Blames Parents for Rising Indiscipline Among Learners | BossNana International Radio

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen challenged parents over growing indiscipline among learners. He said many parents have abandoned their responsibility, leaving their children to be raised by phones, television, and young teachers.

Speaking at AIC Plainsview South B Church on Sunday, Murkomen added that parents often blame teachers, the Interior Ministry, the education sector, and the government instead of addressing their own shortcomings.

“Parents should ask themselves whether they are doing for their children what was done for them. Part of the problem we are experiencing today is the failure of current parents to create time for their children. They have left children to be raised by phones and TVs,” he said.

“If you look at what children are doing more in schools, it reflects the failure of parents to take responsibility. Parents are not ready to face their wrongs, and the easiest target to blame is teachers, the Interior Ministry, the education sector and the government.”

The CS told parents not to expect the government to discipline their children, saying they must take that duty themselves. He added that many teachers today are young as well, so people should not expect them to replace parents at home.

“The government cannot discipline your students; that is your responsibility. Parents still assume that current teachers are the same as old teachers. These are Gen Z teachers; you have left your children to Gen Z teachers to raise fellow Gen Zs, yet you do not want your children to be punished,” he said. “Teachers have now turned to simply teaching and going home. The solution lies in responsible parenting and the church.”

Murkomen Announces Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit

On security, Murkomen reassured Kenyans that the country remains safe. He said the government is redesigning Nairobi’s security approach to respond to new threats.

“Our country is safe now, and we have made great progress. We are changing Nairobi’s security architecture, and this July we will begin setting up the Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit to address the city’s unique challenges,” he announced.

The CS named gangs and goons as the country’s biggest remaining security threat. He blamed politicians for nurturing the criminal groups, which later turned rogue.

“The only challenge left in the country involves gangs and goons, either groups politicians helped form or groups that formed themselves for selfish gains. Some started with politicians, and when those sponsors could no longer sustain them, the gangs became rogue,” he said.

Murkomen Reacts to Cathedral Attack, Confirms Arrests of Suspects

Murkomen also addressed Friday’s attack at All Saints Cathedral, where goons disrupted a post-budget dialogue forum. He called the incident unfortunate and confirmed that authorities had arrested suspects.

“There was an unfortunate incident at All Saints Cathedral. It was unfortunate. CCTV captured them, and the DCI has arrested a number of them. We will take them to court,” he said. “We will tackle gangs through the Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit because we have already handled similar goons in other towns.”

The CS further criticized the political class. He called for people to clean up the country’s political discourse and condemned leaders who promote ethnic divisions.
