Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Oburu Oginga hit out at the rebel Linda Mwananchi faction, warning dissenting members that the party will not tolerate indiscipline.
Speaking during the ODM Nyanza Delegates Consultative Forum on Sunday, May 17, 2026, Oburu outlined strict conditions for any future reconciliation. He dismissed claims that the Orange Party leadership has grown weak and accused the Linda Mwananchi camp of openly undermining official party policies while simultaneously expecting to secure senior positions.
The veteran politician argued that internal democracy must always walk hand in hand with discipline and loyalty to collective party decisions.
“Those who are saying that Linda something else, they are our people and members of our party, but they have forgotten one thing. That in a democracy there must be discipline,” Oburu said.
“You cannot just talk against the party policy, and you still expect a higher office in the same party. You cannot,” he added.
Oburu defended his leadership style and pushed back against perceptions that age has weakened his authority within the outfit.
“You think we are weak? You think Oburu is old? I can assure you I am not weak. Old is gold,” he declared.
The ODM chief also suggested that members unhappy with the party’s direction are entirely free to leave, but he warned that any return would come with strings attached. According to Oburu, members of the rebel Linda Mwananchi faction can always rejoin the fold, but they must forget about holding top party offices for the time being.
“And if they want to fly, they can just fly, but if they want to come back to the party, we shall readmit them, but they must know that when they come, they come with a coiled tail,” he said. “And they should not think that they will come to start from the top,” he added.
