Ngong Road Night Closure Begins as Junction Mall Flyover Nears Completion | BossNana International Radio

Motorists using Ngong Road near Junction Mall should prepare for disruptions starting this week, as the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) announces a two-week partial night closure to complete the final phase of ongoing road works.

In a public notice released on Sunday, May 17, KURA confirmed that the Ngong Road/Naivasha Road section at Junction Mall will close nightly from Monday, May 18, to Sunday, May 31, 2026. The closures run from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM each night, giving contractors a window to lay asphalt as part of the road’s finishing works.

“We wish to notify the general public that a section of Ngong Road / Naivasha Road at the Junction Mall will be partially closed as from Monday 18th, May 2026, till Sunday 31st, May 2026, both days inclusive. The closing will be carried as from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM. This is to allow the contractor to undertake the Asphalt works as part of the final finishing works,” the notice reads in part.

KURA urged drivers to use alternative routes during the affected hours and to follow instructions from traffic police officers and marshals deployed at the site. The authority also acknowledged the disruption the closure will cause.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused as we endeavour to transform urban mobility,” KURA added.

Flyover Nearing Completion

The notice arrives just days after Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo shared a progress update on the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road flyover project, confirming that construction has entered its final stretch. In a statement on Monday, May 11, PS Omollo revealed that workers have already completed the steel superstructure and primary structural framework. Crews are now focused on installing the deck slab, laying asphalt surfacing, marking road lines, and mounting high-mast LED luminaires alongside supporting lighting infrastructure.

“The construction of the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road (Junction Mall) Flyover, currently in its final stages, marks another major step in redefining Nairobi’s infrastructural capacity as a modern and globally competitive Capital City,” the statement read in part.

The flyover project forms part of a broader push to ease chronic traffic congestion along one of Nairobi’s busiest corridors. Once complete, the structure is expected to significantly improve traffic flow at the Junction Mall intersection, which has long been a bottleneck for commuters traveling between the city center and the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road axis.

Drivers who regularly use the route at night should plan ahead and allow extra travel time over the next two weeks as the final works get underway.
