Millie Odhiambo Warns Ruto Security Breach Could Trigger Dangerous Copycat Incidents | BossNana International Radio

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has sounded the alarm over the security breach at President William Ruto’s public event in Kilifi County, cautioning that dismissing the incident as harmless could open the door to far more dangerous copycat behavior.

The lawmaker’s reaction came after a young man dramatically broke through a tight security cordon and reached the podium on Sunday, May 24, 2026, as President Ruto addressed a thanksgiving service for Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs at Mnagoni Primary School in Ganze constituency, Kilifi County.

A Tense Moment at the Dais

Security officers moved in fast, aggressively restraining the intruder and escorting him away from the main stage. The sudden disruption sent a visible wave of panic through the crowd, forcing the President to pause his speech while officers worked to restore calm and secure the venue.

Once the situation settled, Ruto chose to lighten the mood rather than dwell on the gravity of the breach. With characteristic humor, he suggested the young man had simply seized an opportunity, not unlike the guest of honor himself.

“Asante sana. Huyo kijana hana shida. Nafikiri amejifunza kutoka kwa Fikirini Jacobs kwamba nafasi ikipatikana asiipoteze. Huyo kijana, wachana naye, nitamshughulikia baadaye. Ni kijana mzuri. Yeye pia anatafuta bahati yake,” Ruto said.

Odhiambo: “It May Give Criminals Ideas”

While the President’s response drew laughs from the crowd, Odhiambo took a sharply different view. Writing on social media, she warned that treating the incident lightly could set a dangerous precedent, particularly for those with genuinely harmful intentions.

“The young guy may not have a problem, as the president says, but this is a serious security breach. It may give criminals ideas,” she wrote.

Her concern aligns closely with the position taken by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, who on the same day ordered an immediate restructuring of the presidential security detail and launched a special investigations team to determine how the individual bypassed multiple layers of protection.

A Mirror of Kenya’s Youth Crisis

Beyond the security dimension, Odhiambo used the moment to draw attention to a deeper and more systemic problem: the growing desperation gripping Kenya’s youth population.

“It, however, highlights what I said yesterday. There is alarming desperation by young people,” she said.

The Suba North MP painted a stark picture of the reality facing many young Kenyans today, pointing to a generation that has invested in education but continues to find itself locked out of meaningful employment.

“Many are educated but jobless, back in their homes ni kubaya pia (things are bad). Sick or dead parents and no food,” she said. “We MUST urgently seek a solution.”

Her remarks resonate with a growing chorus of voices across Kenya calling on the government to treat youth unemployment not merely as an economic statistic but as a genuine national security concern.
