Matiang’i Slams Uhuru’s Betrayers and Says Kenya’s Fuel Crisis Proves Jubilee Must Return to Power | BossNana International Radio

Fred Matiang’i has claimed that former President Uhuru Kenyatta faced betrayal from several individuals he trusted and appointed to senior government positions.

Speaking during a delegates’ meeting in Kiambu, Matiang’i stated that certain leaders whom Uhuru nominated to the East African Legislative Assembly and the National Assembly had turned against both the Jubilee Party and its leadership.

“We know those people who betrayed Uhuru, and we will continue calling them out,” Matiang’i said.

The presidential hopeful revealed that Uhuru once canceled an international meeting just to attend the burial of a mother to one of these appointed leaders, illustrating how the former president consistently stood by his allies.

Matiang’i, however, maintained that the Jubilee Party will continue reaching out to its former members and leaders despite the ongoing political fallout. He also defended Uhuru’s continued involvement in national politics, arguing that retired presidents retain a democratic right to participate in political affairs.

He cited former United States President Barack Obama as an example of a retired leader who continued to support his political party after leaving office.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary further urged Jubilee members to respect leaders within the united opposition coalition, warning against launching public attacks on coalition partners through social media.

“There is a proper mechanism for handling issues instead of shouting on social media,” he said.

Matiang’i noted that the opposition alliance would continue working together, adding that their main political competitor remained the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and President William Ruto.

“Hatutaki ushenzi; we must respect our coalition partners,” he said.

He added that the Jubilee Party was making steady progress in its grassroots meetings, which are aimed at reconnecting with party members across different regions of the country.

Matiang’i Promises to Scrap the G-to-G Fuel Deal

Matiang’i further claimed that the nationwide protests over the fuel price hike are a clear indication of why the Jubilee Party needs to return to power.

The former Interior and Education minister argued that the current economic turmoil unfolding across the country would never have been witnessed under a Jubilee administration.

“Somebody wanted to know why the Jubilee Party needs to return to power; today, you have the answer. This is the reason why Jubilee should come back,” Fred Matiang’i stated.

Matiang’i declared that if he ascends to power in 2027, he would immediately dismantle what he termed the “fictitious government-to-government (G-to-G) fuel deal” championed by the present regime. According to the presidential hopeful, the ongoing fuel pricing crisis has only been worsened by this G-to-G framework.
