Kalonzo Announces Date for ‘Mother of All Protests’ | BossNana International Radio

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has pinned the blame for soaring fuel prices on a failure of leadership, accusing the Kenya Kwanza administration of steering the economy and public services toward a crisis.

Addressing a crowd at Katutu market in Kitui West on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Kalonzo noted that the financial strain on households is reaching a breaking point. He argued that Kenya’s pump prices have now outpaced those of its neighbors, creating an unnecessary burden on citizens. The opposition leader also leveled sharp criticism at the government’s management of the education sector and pointed to what he described as the persistent theft of public resources.

The meeting took place against a backdrop of rising public anger following record-breaking fuel hikes earlier this month, which saw petrol and diesel prices climb past the KSh 200 mark. Kalonzo revealed that he has already mobilized legal and political support for those caught up in the fallout of recent demonstrations.

Kalonzo also announced plans for a massive protest on June 25, 2026, to honor the memory of the young Kenyans killed during the 2024 anti-Finance Bill demonstrations. He pledged that a united opposition government would officially recognize June 25 as a national day of remembrance to commemorate those who stood against executive overreach.

“The mother of all protests will be on June 25 this year to commemorate the day when Kenyan youth were shot dead by the government while protesting injustices,” he said.

In a separate move, former Attorney General Justin Muturi called for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to move beyond issuing statements and instead convene a multi-stakeholder meeting. He urged the commission to engage directly with political parties, civil society, and the media to address lingering electoral concerns.

Muturi noted that the current enhanced voter registration drive, which aims to net 2.5 million new voters, will conclude on April 28, 2026. He issued a stern warning to the commission, stating that if the IEBC fails to organize these talks within two weeks, stakeholders will mobilize a sit-in at its headquarters to demand transparency.

DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa added his voice to the growing chorus of concern, alleging a coordinated effort to register voters outside Kenya’s borders. He called for an immediate investigation into claims that non-citizens are receiving Kenyan voting documents to influence the upcoming electoral cycle.

Specifically, Wamalwa pointed to activities in the Endebess constituency, accusing local leadership of facilitating the illegal registration of foreign nationals from neighboring Uganda. He urged the IEBC to scrutinize these cross-border movements to protect the integrity of the national voter register.

“Tunataka IEBC waangalie jamaa anaita Robert Pukose wa kule Endebes, tunajua hapo wanaandikisha watu kutoka Uganda kule Sebei.. wanapatiana kadi ya za uchaguzi kwa watu wasio Wakenya,” Wamalwa said.
