National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has dismissed claims that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is finished, following the recent attempt to remove Edwin Sifuna from his position as party secretary general.
Speaking during ODM’s coastal tour in Lamu County on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Junet highlighted the party’s enduring popularity and cautioned those spreading rumors about its demise.
“Wale watu ambao wanaeneza uvumi kila saa ati chama imekufa hiyo wamesema ya kutosha,” Junet said.
The Suna East Member of Parliament reaffirmed that ODM is very much alive and insisted that the party is only beginning its journey. He also pointed out that ODM has widespread support across Kenya, calling it a true party of the people.
“ODM haiwezi kufa ndo inaanza sasa; ODM ni chama amabaye inawafuasi wengi katika nchi hii ya Kenya, ni chama ya wananchi,” Junet stated.
Junet’s remarks come amid a significant political shakeup within the party, triggered by the recent bid to remove Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as ODM secretary general.
Orange Democratic Movement National Chairperson Gladys Wanga also defended the decision, saying the party acted in line with its constitution when it ousted Sifuna.
Wanga clarified that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, had the required number of members present to legally carry out the decision.
“Nimeona watu wanasema kwamba NEC was illegal na wamefanya illegal decision, NEC ya chama cha ODM is fully constituted by forty members, and the NEC we had yesterday, we had thirty-four out of the forty members attending and present with two apologies,” Wanga explained.
She further reiterated that the ODM NEC is properly constituted and empowered to make decisions according to the party’s constitution.
“This means that the NEC is properly constituted and can make any decision in line with the constitution of the party,” Wanga said.
