An autopsy has confirmed that a blood clot in the lungs caused the death of Umoja gym trainer Alphy Migasha, weeks after he suffered severe injuries during a violent assault at a club in Nairobi.
Government pathologists believe the fatal clot developed from a leg fracture Migasha sustained on December 22, 2025, during an altercation at a liquor joint in Umoja One estate. He later died at his home on January 17, 2026, as his condition deteriorated.
Family members said Migasha vomited blood shortly before his death. They revealed that he had sought medical treatment after a known suspect allegedly assaulted him and fractured his leg during the attack.
Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor conducted the postmortem at the City Mortuary and confirmed that a pulmonary embolism led to Migasha’s death.
“The blood clot travelled to the lung, causing death. We believe it emanated from a leg injury he had,” Dr Oduor said.
According to the family, Migasha sustained multiple injuries during the fight, including a broken leg, fractured ribs, and chest injuries. They are now calling on police to arrest the suspect linked to the fatal assault.
CCTV footage recorded on December 22 captured Migasha sitting outside a liquor outlet in Umoja One estate moments before the attack. In the video, a man approaches him, confronts him, and launches a violent assault.
Witnesses attempted to intervene, but the attacker continued beating Migasha before walking away and leaving him writhing in pain. The motive behind the assault remains unclear.
After receiving an alert, Migasha’s family rushed him to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where doctors confirmed the extent of his injuries. Medical staff placed him on medication as the family reported the incident to Buruburu Police Station.
Police officers at Buruburu Police Station said they are now focused on tracing the suspect for questioning and possible prosecution.
Buruburu Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) head Simon Kirui assured the family that detectives are actively handling the case and will take action as investigations progress.
