Moses Kuria: “I Don’t Need Nairobi; Nairobi Needs Me” | BossNana International Radio

Former President William Ruto’s economic advisor, Moses Kuria, has declared that Nairobi County requires his leadership more than he requires the city, as he sets the stage for his 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Speaking to local media on Monday, December 15, 2025, Kuria described Nairobi as being in a state of disarray that only his intervention can fix. He stated that while he can survive without holding office, the city cannot function effectively without him.

Kuria drew parallels to Kiambu County, where he unsuccessfully contested the governorship in 2022, noting that the county remains mired in challenges he had anticipated and sought to address. He argued that Nairobi is now in a similar situation, requiring decisive leadership to navigate its complexities.

“I don’t need Nairobi; Nairobi needs me. I can survive without being governor. I tried to be the governor of Kiambu. I am not worse… Kiambu is worse. I am just trying to save Nairobi, and if Nairobi thinks it has a better person, so be it,” Kuria stated.

While positioning himself as the city’s potential savior, Kuria said he plans to scale back his political activities in 2026. He intends to focus on ensuring peaceful elections in 2027, both for himself and his party.

“2026 will be the year in which I will do as little politics as possible. We have this discussion as we head to Christmas next year. I am a political animal, and in 2027 we have an election and I am a party leader with many elected leaders. My commitment and that of my party is to make sure we have a peaceful election,” Kuria explained.
