A Mombasa court has charged a Chinese national wanted by both Tanzanian and Chinese authorities in connection with a murder case, accusing him of unlawful possession of a firearm and assault causing actual bodily harm.
Ling Yao Zheng appeared in court on charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm, in violation of Section 4(1)(a) of the Firearms Act, Cap 114 of the Laws of Kenya.
Prosecutors told the court that on December 10, 2025, at Shelly Beach in Likoni, Mombasa County, police recovered a CZ P-10 C pistol loaded with 13 live 9mm rounds from the accused. He did not possess a valid firearm licence or authorization.
The court also heard that Ling assaulted Jane Wambuga Mulei during the same incident, causing her actual bodily harm.
The accused pleaded guilty to all charges. The court scheduled the next mention for January 19, 2026, when facts will be read, and a ruling will be issued.
Officers from Shelly Beach Police Station arrested Ling following a report from the Senti Kumi area. Preliminary checks indicated that he was a fugitive facing serious criminal charges abroad.
Authorities revealed that Tanzanian officials are seeking Ling in connection with a fatal shooting in Dar es Salaam in 2022. Chinese authorities have also listed him as wanted, and international agencies are tracking his movements.
Tanzanian police allege that Ling was responsible for the killing of 26-year-old Fu Nannan, a fellow Chinese national, on June 11, 2022, at a residential building in Ilala, Dar es Salaam. During the same attack, a woman identified as Nie Mnqin was shot in the stomach and admitted to Muhimbili National Hospital for treatment.
Kenyan police confirmed that Ling remains in custody as authorities verify documents related to the murder case and consult with foreign law enforcement agencies. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
