Kenyans Assured of Stable Electricity Supply During Festive Season | BossNana International Radio

Kenyans can look forward to a reliable and sufficient electricity supply during the festive season, the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has assured.

In a statement on Monday, KenGen pointed out that its Seven Forks hydro cascade is producing at high capacity, supplying the country with plenty of renewable, low-cost electricity amid unpredictable global energy prices.

“As of the morning of December 8, total hydro generation from the system stood at 473.14MW against an installed capacity of 600.4MW,” said KenGen Managing Director and CEO, Eng. Peter Njenga.

Reservoir Levels Healthy, Generation Stable

According to the latest dam readings from KenGen, major water reservoirs are operating safely within optimal ranges:

  • Masinga Dam: 1,054.49 meters
  • Kamburu Dam: 1,005.04 meters
  • Gitaru Dam: 923.18 meters
  • Kindaruma Dam: 780.05 meters
  • Kiambere Dam: 697.44 meters

“These healthy reservoir levels signal sustained generation capacity across the cascade thanks to our robust water management program that ensures we deliver power output even during low rainfall seasons,” Eng. Njenga explained.

He noted that this strong performance reflects Kenya’s discipline in managing national resources and its long-term commitment to energy security.

“As the world grapples with climate volatility and rising energy prices, Kenya stands out,” Eng. Njenga said.

KenGen’s assurance comes at a time when many countries face uncertainty in energy supply due to fluctuating global markets, making Kenya’s hydroelectric system a key pillar of national stability during the holiday season.
