Machakos detectives intercepted a Toyota Prado TX carrying cannabis worth approximately KSh 14.2 million following a dramatic high-speed pursuit along the Machakos–Kangundo Road.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers stationed at Kyumbi flagged down the SUV in the Kaloleni area. The driver, however, ignored police instructions and sped toward Mutituni, triggering a tense chase.
During the pursuit, officers fired shots to disable the vehicle’s tires, forcing the Prado to plunge into a valley near Kyanguli. The occupants abandoned the SUV and fled on foot.
A search of the vehicle revealed 473.7 kilograms of compressed cannabis hidden inside, a haul valued at millions of shillings.
Machakos County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Kasim Baricha confirmed the recovery and said the suspects remain at large, though officers are continuing their efforts to track them down.
Authorities have launched an intensified manhunt, urging the public to assist with any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.
