Tanzania Tightens Security Over Alleged Foreign Plot to Spark Protests | BossNana International Radio

Tanzania’s police have issued a stern warning that foreign nationals have illegally entered the country with the alleged intention of inciting unrest, as tensions remain high following a disputed general election.

In a statement released from Police Headquarters in Dodoma on Sunday, November 2, 2025, authorities said intelligence reports indicate that non-citizens had infiltrated Tanzania through unofficial entry points to fuel violence and take part in planned demonstrations.

According to the police, some of the foreigners disguise themselves as boda boda riders and are reportedly operating in Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, Mwanza, Songwe, and other regions.

The police continue tracking them to take strict action under the law. Anyone who has rented property to a foreigner or lives with a foreigner whose activities are unknown must give information immediately,” the statement read.

It called on citizens to be vigilant and report unfamiliar foreigners in their neighbourhoods, particularly those conducting questionable activities. The authorities warned further that Tanzanians who accommodate such people may be taken to court. The reports should be channeled to area government offices, police stations, or regional commanders, it said.

The warning comes just days after President Samia Suluhu Hassan was declared winner of the October 29 general election, winning nearly 98 percent of the vote. The main opposition party, CHADEMA, has rejected the results, which it describes as a “total fabrication.” Its leader, Tundu Lissu, was unable to contest after being arrested earlier this year on treason charges.

Protests erupted in several cities after the results were announced; violent confrontations between demonstrators and security forces have resulted in a number of deaths. While opposition leaders are claiming several deaths, the UN Human Rights Office has confirmed at least ten deaths in three cities.

Since then, security has been tightened throughout the country, with heavy police patrols in major urban centers. In Dar es Salaam, authorities warned anyone who may attempt to disrupt public order that they will face immediate legal action.
