Kenya and US Finalize Health Partnership to Boost Universal Health Coverage | BossNana International Radio

Kenya is set to strengthen its health partnership with the United States through a new bilateral agreement aimed at boosting Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and combating diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria.

Speaking on Thursday, Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo pointed out that the government is focused on sustainable and well-coordinated health financing to ensure all Kenyans access quality healthcare, even amidst economic challenges.

“The Government of Kenya is focused on building sustainable, predictable, and well-coordinated financing for its health priorities, including Universal Health Coverage,” Kiptoo said.

He said despite a constrained fiscal environment, the government is committed to prudent management of resources, strengthening health systems, and enhancing service delivery.

“Even within limited fiscal space, we continue to prioritise prudent resource use, stronger coordination and increased domestic health financing,” he added.

Kiptoo highlighted that Kenya’s collaboration with the US through the America First Global Health Strategy has remained instrumental in health reforms and institutional resilience.

“Our discussions on the America First Global Health Strategy reaffirm our longstanding partnership in strengthening Kenya’s health sector,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to the United States for its sustained support in fighting infectious diseases and enhancing healthcare access across Kenya.

“We appreciate the United States Government for its continued support in combating HIV, TB and malaria, and in advancing health system strengthening across the country,” Kiptoo stated.

According to the PS, both governments are in the final stages of finalising a new bilateral agreement that will align Kenya’s healthcare goals with the US’s global health priorities. He described the deal as a critical step toward ensuring long-term sustainability in Kenya’s health investments.

“Both countries are finalising a bilateral agreement that aligns Kenya’s health priorities with the United States’ global health objectives, strengthening a partnership that saves lives and builds a more resilient health system for our nation,” Kiptoo said.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to leaving no Kenyan behind, ensuring access to affordable and quality healthcare, a cornerstone of the country’s Universal Health Coverage agenda.
