Job Seekers Defrauded of Ksh2.5 Million in Police Recruitment Scam | BossNana International Radio

Kilimani detectives have dismantled a sophisticated police recruitment scam, arresting a suspect accused of duping job seekers out of Ksh2.5 million.

Benedict Odeng’ero Wekesa was apprehended after three victims came forward, revealing how he promised them “guaranteed” entry into the National Police Service. Armed with forged recruitment letters, Wekesa convinced the victims to pay large sums of money, assuring them their spots were secure. By the time they realized the scheme, their dreams of joining the police force had vanished along with Ksh2.5 million.

Detectives acted swiftly, ambushing Wekesa at the Sagret Hotel in Kilimani. They also recovered twenty additional fake police recruitment letters, exposing a well-coordinated fraud operation. His accomplice, however, sensed danger and escaped before authorities could apprehend him.

Wekesa is now in custody, undergoing processing as he awaits arraignment, while detectives pursue leads to track down the accomplice.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a stern warning to the public: police recruitment is free, fair, and transparent.

“Anyone who is approached and asked for money in exchange for a recruitment slot should report immediately to the nearest police station or through #FichuaKwaDCI,” the agency said.

The DCI has also shared channels for reporting suspected scams:

  • Call: 0800 722 203 (Toll-free)

  • WhatsApp: 0709 570 000 for anonymous reporting

The agency has called for vigilance among the public and asked them to report anyone attempting to solicit money for recruitment.
