KAMP Promises Fair Royalties for Kenyan Artists After KECOBO License Renewal | BossNana International Radio

KAMP Copyright and Related Rights Limited has officially received the green light from the Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) to continue operating as a Collective Management Organization (CMO) for another year, effective November 5, 2025.

The renewal came after a comprehensive evaluation by KECOBO’s Board of Directors, culminating in a resolution issued on October 14, 2025, concerning the licensing of CMOs under the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports.

In a statement, KAMP hailed KECOBO’s decision as a strong endorsement of the association’s role in safeguarding and promoting the rights of artists, producers, and other rights holders across Kenya.

“This renewal affirms KAMP’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and service excellence in the management and distribution of royalties. There however remain certain areas of concern that KAMP will address with the regulator,” the statement read.

KAMP Chairperson Angela Ndambuki welcomed the renewal with gratitude, saying it symbolizes more than just compliance – it represents progress in fostering collaboration and mutual understanding between KAMP and the regulator.

“We appreciate KECOBO’s continued confidence in KAMP. This license renewal marks not only regulatory compliance but also progress in fostering mutual respect and understanding between the regulator and KAMP. It reflects a positive shift toward a more balanced and collaborative regulatory environment – one that recognizes efficiency and effectiveness,” she said.

Ndambuki further reiterated KAMP’s resolve to uphold good governance and strengthen partnerships across the creative sector.

“KAMP remains steadfast in its commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance. We look forward to continued engagement with KECOBO and all stakeholders to ensure a thriving, fair, and sustainable ecosystem for the music industry in Kenya,” she added.

Echoing the Chairperson’s remarks, KAMP Chief Executive Officer, CS Maurice Okoth, underscored the organization’s commitment to innovation and improved service delivery.

“KAMP is investing heavily in technology to automate and enhance all aspects of rights management, licensing, and royalty distribution. Our goal is to ensure that every process is efficient, verifiable, and fully transparent. We are also advancing international partnerships and collaborations with other Collective Management Organizations across the world to benchmark best practices, share knowledge, and expand revenue opportunities for our members. This global approach will empower all rights holders to benefit from a broader and more connected rights ecosystem,” Okoth said.

He reiterated that KAMP remains dedicated to fairness, transparency, and integrity in all its operations.

According to the Association, the renewal of its license not only validates its progress but also renews its responsibility to strengthen internal systems, expand partnerships, and continue delivering value to members and stakeholders.

KAMP reaffirmed its long-term commitment to driving growth in Kenya’s creative economy by advocating for the welfare of music producers and ensuring every contributor to the country’s dynamic music industry receives fair recognition and reward.
