City Hall Cracks Down on Dirty Buildings with Final 14-Day Repainting Notice | BossNana International Radio

The Nairobi County Government has issued a final 14-day notice to all property owners, tenants, and property management agents in prime areas of the city to repaint their properties or repair defective security lights, or risk facing firm enforcement action.

In a directive that was signed by acting County Secretary Godfrey Akumali, the directive targets all premises within the Central Business District (CBD), Westlands, Upper Hill, Ngara, Kirinyaga Road, and other designated shopping centers.

The County stated that the exercise aims to restore the city’s visual appeal and ensure that all buildings comply with public health and housing standards.

Akumali emphasized that the directive is anchored in the Public Health Act (Cap 242) and the Physical and Land Use Planning Act (2019), which collectively seek to enhance Nairobi’s image while safeguarding public safety.

“This notice takes effect immediately and remains valid for fourteen days only. Failure to comply will result in statutory closure orders and prosecution in line with Sections 115, 118, and 126 of the Public Health Act,” the notice read.

The County Government also encouraged property owners to take advantage of the waived repainting permit fees, saying the incentive was meant to ease compliance and support city beautification efforts.

This final warning comes after City Hall’s initial directive issued on January 22, 2025, which gave property owners 90 days to repaint their buildings. The grace period has since lapsed, prompting a tougher stance from the county administration.

Akumali reiterated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to revitalize Nairobi’s skyline, improve urban safety, and maintain hygiene standards across residential and commercial zones. The County warned that any property owners who ignore the notice risk immediate closure of their premises and possible prosecution.

City Hall reaffirmed its commitment to reviving Nairobi’s image as a clean, vibrant, and orderly capital, urging residents to cooperate fully to achieve a safer and more livable urban environment.
