Mount Kenya University is inviting nominations for the 2025 MKU Alumni Awards, a top honour for graduates driving real change in Kenya and abroad. Nominations run from 10 September to 15 October 2025.
The awards’ goal; to celebrate alumni whose work delivers positive and sustainable community impact.
The winner gets up to USD 50,000 to strengthen ongoing projects or professional growth. They also receive a certificate and a permanent spot on MKU’s Alumni Wall of Honour. That mix of cash and recognition signals a university rewarding results, not just résumés.
MKU says nominations can highlight five types of excellence, Community Service, Professional Excellence, Public Service and Leadership, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Global Impact. This spread covers everything from grassroots health drives to startups and policy work.
Eligibility is tight to keep the process clean. Nominees must be MKU graduates with sustained contributions and strong professional values. MKU staff, the University Council, and the sitting Alumni Executive Council are not eligible, reducing conflicts of interest.
To enter, send a completed nomination form, a CV, and two reference letters to alumni@mku.ac.ke. Use the subject line “MKUAA-nominee’s name.” Only complete applications will be considered, so double-check the paperwork before you hit send.
Questions can go to the alumni office via the university’s alumni portal or the shared WhatsApp no.
MKU is a large private university with its main campus in Thika, offering programs that cut across health sciences, business, computing, education, engineering, and law. Its alumni show up in hospitals, classrooms, labs, startups, and county halls, which explains why the award’s categories cast a wide net.
Its regional footprint has since expanded to Kigali, Rwanda.
