KURA Launches Crackdown on Illegal Billboards Along Eastern Bypass | BossNana International Radio

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) is embarking on a clean up exercise to cut down unlawful signboards and other hazardous installations along the Eastern Bypass Corridor.

In a statement, the authority revealed that several billboards had been erected without approval. KURA said the illegal installations not only spoil the urban landscape but also pose serious safety risks to motorists and pedestrians.

“It has come to our attention that the Eastern Bypass Corridor has been extensively occupied with signboards, many of which pose safety risks to road users and compromise the urban aesthetics of the area,” the statement read.

“A significant number of these installations have been erected unlawfully on public land.”

In response, KURA announced a clean-up exercise targeting all hazardous structures, including the unapproved billboards, to restore proper use of road reserves.

“The Kenya Urban Roads Authority will be undertaking a clean-up exercise to restore order along the corridor,” the statement added.

Ahead of the crackdown, KURA has called for a stakeholders’ meeting on Thursday, September 18, at 10 a.m. to coordinate the operation.

The meeting will bring together Nairobi and Kiambu County Commissioners, Deputy County Commissioners, area chiefs, traders, and business owners operating along the corridor.
