The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife has announced free entry to all Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS)-managed national parks, reserves, and sanctuaries on Saturday, September 27, to mark the 2025 United Nations (UN) World Tourism Day.
Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said the initiative is designed to reconnect Kenyans with “the unparalleled beauty of the nation’s natural treasures” while also promoting conservation awareness.
“By opening the gates to these iconic spaces, we aim to foster a greater appreciation of Kenya’s rich biodiversity and inspire a shared responsibility to protect it for generations to come,” Miano stated.
She further encouraged Kenyans to seize the chance to explore the parks, learn more about their heritage, and take pride in the wonders of nature.
“We invite all Kenyans to take advantage of this opportunity to explore, learn, and celebrate the wonders of our parks, reserves, and sanctuaries, which are not just Kenya’s pride but the world’s heritage,” she added. “It reaffirms our commitment to sustainable tourism and conservation.”
This year’s World Tourism Day theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” highlights the role of tourism in driving positive change for communities, conservation, and economic growth.
The announcement comes as the government prepares to raise park entry fees to address a Ksh12 billion funding deficit. Under the new structure, entry fees will increase from Ksh430 to Ksh1,000 for Kenyans, while foreigners will pay Ksh10,360.
