Elachi: Stop Tanzania Online Feud Before It Hurts Trade and Jobs | BossNana International Radio

Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi has appealed to Kenyans to ease tensions with Tanzania and stop fueling the ongoing online feud with the neighbouring country.

Speaking during a live TV interview on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Elachi warned that the hostility could trigger economic and labour-related consequences. She noted that many Kenyans working in Tanzania were already considering returning home due to worsening conditions.

“I know we have done a lot, but Kenyans in Tanzania are going through a lot. I want to plead to Kenyans, let us leave Tanzania alone; it is their country. It is not right; let us tone down on Tanzania,” she said.

Elachi cautioned that the diplomatic strain was already hurting trade and employment opportunities.

“Right now we are told even our maize cannot leave through Namanga, and also our business. Our teachers are soon coming back, and do we have jobs for them?” she posed.

Feud Rekindled by Football Banter

Her remarks come as the long-running rivalry between Kenya and Tanzania flared up again during the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Tanzania’s Taifa Stars crashed out of the tournament in Dar es Salaam on Friday, August 22, 2025, prompting some Kenyan leaders to join the football banter. Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen and Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris were among those who took playful jabs at Tanzania’s loss.

Passaris led the charge with a cheeky post on X (formerly Twitter), quoting lyrics from Tanzanian musician Mbosso’s hit song Pawa.

“Pawa pawa… naishiwa pawa! Majirani zetu wa Tanzania wamejikuta wakikosa nguvu kabisa mbele ya Morocco. Viumbe dhaifu walioshindwa kufika penalty! Simba kageuzwa paka. Majirani hoyee? Upepo wa bahari unawapelekaje?” she wrote.

Murkomen followed with a lighter dig. “Pole Jirani. Tuko pamoja kwa msimu huu!” he posted.

Meanwhile, Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has suggested staging a friendly match between the two national teams to settle the score once and for all.
