DP Kindiki: Respect Boda Boda Riders, Most Are Law-Abiding | BossNana International Radio

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged road users to respect boda boda operators while calling on the riders to shun recklessness and misconduct that fuel tension on the roads.

Prof. Kindiki emphasized that boda boda riders have the same rights as other Kenyans in the transport sector to conduct business and earn a living, noting that the government will work with them to streamline the industry.

“We must respect the boda boda riders because they have the right to make a living like all those in the transport industry,” he said.

The Deputy President pointed out that a small minority engages in criminal activities, tarnishing the reputation of the majority who operate legally and responsibly.

“Most of them are doing business genuinely and are law obedient but some are engaging in criminal activities including reckless use of the roads. This is just a small clique portraying a bad picture of the boda boda industry,” he added.

Prof. Kindiki made the remarks on Tuesday during a meeting with Meru County boda boda representatives and Al-Azizia Football Club players in Irunduni, Tharaka Nithi County.

“Reckless riding and violation of traffic rules is not acceptable. Failure to do so you endanger your lives and those of other road users,” he noted.

The Deputy President also told the motorcycle operators that President Ruto had listened to their concerns and suspended the Public Transport Motorcycle Regulation Bill, 2025. The Bill had sparked controversy for proposing to regulate the sector without consulting key stakeholders.

“The President has suspended it and it will not proceed until we have had adequate consultations,” he revealed.

During the meeting, Prof. Kindiki assured boda boda riders and the footballers of his continued support, reminding them to seize opportunities in government-backed empowerment programs.

“We strongly believe in the ability, vision and talent of our youth. We have a duty to take care of our country so we can bequeath them a prosperous nation where they can thrive and raise their families,” the DP noted.

Youth Empowerment Programmes

The Deputy President also outlined several initiatives aimed at creating jobs and opportunities for the youth, who make up the majority of job seekers in the country.

He cited the Kazi Kwa Ground programme, which focuses on job creation in affordable housing, construction of modern markets, and development of hostels nationwide. He also talked about Kazi Mtandaoni, which taps into digital opportunities through the utilization of ICT hubs, and Kazi Majuu, which the government has expanded by signing other bilateral labour agreements with foreign nations.

Prof. Kindiki also stated that the government has revamped the education curriculum so that it remains holistic in nature, enabling learners to discover and cultivate talents from an early age.

He reiterated that streamlining the sports and creative industries remains a priority.

“Every constituency in Kenya will get a sports academy to tap and refine talent,” the DP promised.

“We are going to get rid of all cartels in the music and creative industry to make sure our talented young Kenyans benefit fully from their creativity and no one exploits them,” he added.

Even as the government works to improve livelihoods, Prof. Kindiki urged boda boda riders, footballers, and young people across the country to reject manipulation by leaders bent on causing chaos.

“Avoid being exploited by retrogressive leaders who have nothing to offer but violence and destruction,” he added.
