Crisis in Gachagua’s DCP as Another Candidate Abandons Ship | BossNana International Radio

Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has been dealt a blow after its Magarini candidate, Furaha Chengo, quit the party, stating that he was frustrated by senior officers.

In a letter dated Monday, September 29, 2025, Chengo, also a member of the NEC, elaborated that he could no longer tolerate the issues he had with the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) and Secretary-General Hezron Obanga. He termed his experience with them as extremely disappointing.

“Please accept this letter as formal notice of my resignation from the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) as a National Executive Committee (NEC) member, effective immediately. This decision has not been taken lightly, but I can no longer continue in a role where my efforts are undermined by systemic inefficiencies and a lack of support from key party officials,” part of his statement read.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude and respect to our party leader… However, my experience with the National Elections Board (NEB) and the Secretary-General (SG) has been profoundly disappointing. The persistent lack of communication, disregard for grassroots concerns, and failure to provide clear directives have created an environment where aspirants like myself are left to navigate critical issues without guidance or support,” he explained.

Ngumbao also noted that the party’s failure to practice transparency in decision-making and not involving NEC members in major deliberations had eroded his trust in serving in the party.

“I hope that future leadership will prioritize transparency, inclusivity, and accountability,” he added.

He also asked the party to enhance active participation and regain the trust of its members, warning that failure to do so could alienate supporters.

Chengo’s exit as the DCP candidate for Magarini follows a series of similar setbacks for the party. Recently, the party’s aspirant in the Banisa by-election, Aden Mohammed, also pulled out of the race just days after denying claims that he was in talks to defect to UDA.

The turmoil comes after yet another blow, when Mbeere North candidate Duncan Mbui ditched the DCP earlier this month and announced he would contest as an independent candidate.
