Court Grants Bomet Governor Barchok Bail Over Ksh.2M Graft Charges | BossNana International Radio

Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok

Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok secured his release after posting a cash bail of Ksh.5 million or an alternative bond of Ksh.15 million in a graft case facing him.

Court documents accuse Barchok of pocketing Ksh.2 million through two contracts awarded between November 14, 2019, and March 10, 2021. The County Government of Bomet had awarded the tenders to Chemasus Construction Limited for routine maintenance of the Kimenderit–Kotoibek–Olbutyo Bridge Road and for grader hire services.

Prosecutors further claim that on March 15, 2021, Barchok moved Ksh.300,000 from one of his Equity Bank accounts to another. Investigators believethe money came from a contractor working in the county and was proceeds of criminal activities.

Five days later, on March 20, prosecutors claim Governor Barchok deposited Ksh.314,000 into another bank account and went ahead to deposit Ksh.100,000 into yet another account belonging to him.

Barchok pleaded not guilty to the three charges, which are conflict of interest, acquiring proceeds of crime, and using proceeds of crime.

The charge sheet also lists Evans Kipkoech Korir, a director of Chemasus Construction Limited, as a co-accused in the case on allegations of conflict of interest.

The court scheduled the matter for mention on September 17, 2025.
