Anglican Church Leader Charged with Sexually Abusing 14-Year-Old Son | BossNana International Radio

A Lay Leader from the Anglican Church of Kenya in Uasin Gishu County was charged at the Eldoret Law Courts with sexually defiling his 14-year-old son.

The accused, who serves with the Anglican Church of Kenya, appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ireri to answer to defilement charges under Section 8 (1) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006. He pleaded not guilty.

According to the charge sheet, the man allegedly sodomised his son on several occasions between December 2019 and 2023 at Kamulat village in Turbo Sub-County. Court documents further allege that the abuse continued for more than four years.

“Your Honour, it is not true as stated in the charge sheet that I defiled my son,” said the accused person.

In his defence, the accused asked the court to grant him reasonable cash bail or bond terms, saying he was a family man ready to attend court proceedings whenever required.

He assured the court that he was not a flight risk, pointing out that his residence was well known. “Your Honour, I am ready to abide by all the conditions that the court will give me pending the hearing and determination of the case facing me,” he said.

The State Counsel made known to the court that six key witnesses, including the victim, would be brought as witnesses against the accused during the trial.

After considering the submissions, Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ireri directed that the lay leader be released on a bond of KSh200,000 with one surety of equivalent value.
