Harambee Stars and Ulinzi Stars winger Boniface Muchiri has earned a well-deserved promotion from Senior Private to Corporal in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), honoring his outstanding contributions to both his club and the national team.
Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, officially promoted the Ulinzi Stars captain on Wednesday following his impressive performances at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN).
In his remarks, General Kahariri praised Corporal Muchiri for his discipline, dedication, and excellence at both national and international levels. “We are very grateful for your commitment, hard work and excellent performance while serving Kenya and, by extension, the KDF. We wish you success in future assignments and are confident you will continue to excel,” said the CDF.
The announcement follows persistent appeals from CHAN 2024 captain Abud Omar, who urged President William Ruto to approve Muchiri’s promotion.
Muchiri, 29, was instrumental to Harambee Stars’ quarter-final finish in CHAN 2024 as he supplied two crucial assists before Kenya’s run was ended against Madagascar.
After completing his studies at St Mary’s Kibabii Boys High School with a C+ in Form Four, Muchiri signed his first professional contract with Nzoia Sugar. He later played for Sony Sugar FC before joining Tusker FC, where he thrived under coach Robert Matano and helped the brewers win the Kenya Premier League title and the Shield Cup trophy.
His career also involved playing abroad for a six-month period at Los Angeles Force in the USA’s National Independent Soccer Association, before returning home to play for Ulinzi Stars.
With the military side, Muchiri has been the most consistent player, finishing as the club’s top scorer for three years in a row.
